John Galliano brought back the magic of couture this afternoon with a Dior show staged in a clear Perspex tent in the gardens of the Musée Rodin.
Giant plastic parrot tulips on the catwalk mirrored urns of them outside the tent and acted as a mesmerising backdrop to models whose dresses seemed to have been grown in a tropical paradise. The show was all about wonderful colours and pairings of colour - violet and pink, orange and black, indigo and lime.
Finely strappy heels came in contrasting colours of the same children’s garden palette
an intense colour scheme that heightened the romance of floral silk day dresses and a finale of giant robes that exploded in a wonderful balance of Dior extravagance with Galliano creativity.
The textures were just as delicious: chiffons, tulles and mohair were cut into multilayered, tulip-shaped skirts that fell in degrade and moved around the body like live coral, while inner layers of ink-bled silk emerged from the lapels of nip-waisted jackets: the delicate inner petals of fantastic fashion blooms.
